About the DESC Lab

The DESC Lab is a research laboratory in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of California, Davis. Led by Dr. Daniel Choe, an Associate Professor of Human Development & Family Studies, the DESC Lab studies young children's and parents' self-regulation, mental health, and resilience. We want the children, families, and other community members we work with to have a fun and positive experience with science! At the DESC Lab, we know we have so much to learn from all our community partners and are grateful for their participation and collaboration.

Lab Statement on Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

At the DESC Lab, we adhere to the UC Davis Principles of Community and actively prioritize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) throughout our research, outreach, and partnerships. Our commitment involves sharing resources among ourselves and with our partners, promoting an inclusive environment that values each other's respect and privacy. We create space for everyone’s voices to be heard with teamwork and collaboration being at the forefront of our lab. We respect the social, historical, cultural, and environmental backgrounds of the families that we work with and are conscious of how our own biases influence the research that we do. We strive to positively impact our community and partnerships in a healthy way by following the principles of DEI that guide our work. Below we have attached some resources offered by both the university and community.
