In its prior outreach from 2016 to 2019, the DESC Lab served as an academic partner to Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency in the design and evaluation of a school-based intervention designed to promote children’s resilience and recovery from adverse childhood experiences in rural northern California. The DESC Lab continues to bridge basic and applied research to investigate parents’ and children’s adverse experiences, coping resources, and mental health to help prevent intergenerational cycles of maltreatment, trauma, and mental illness.
“Anything that we can do to help foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job. Those of us who have this particular vision must continue against all odds.”
