Research Publication: Mobile media and young children's cognitive skills - A review

Amanda Lawrence, Ph.D., and Daniel Choe, Ph.D., published a review of emerging literature that suggests young children can learn from their use of mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, but that excessive or inappropriate use of these devices is also associated with poorer language and self-regulation skills. As these skills foreshadow important health and achievement outcomes later in life, additional rigorous and innovative research is needed. Implications for practice are also discussed.
