I joined this lab because I wanted to learn more about children and possible relationships between their background and their self-regulation skills. I have worked with children as a summer camp counselor and a recreation aid for many years, and I was always curious about the reasoning behind the way children act. This lab has opened my eyes to how self-regulation is impacted, and the big role it plays in a child’s life.
I joined this lab because I was really interested in child behavior and their interactions with others. The summer before I joined this lab I traveled with my high school to China to teach kids English while they taught us Mandarin. I also interned at the UCDMC PICU running their playroom and enjoyed every minute of it. Although I plan on applying to veterinary school in the future, being in this lab has taught me valuable research and interpersonal skills, and I’m also so thankful to have met and befriended the lab members here.
I joined the DESC lab because I am really interested in human development research, specifically about parent and child relationships. This lab has helped me better understand children’s coping mechanisms, as well as how they change over time. I want to be a teacher in the future and the experiences and collaborations I have had with fellow lab members and participants have prepared me for a solid transition into education.
